When most people hear the name Ponce DeLeon, they usually associate the 16th century Spanish conquistador with the phrase “Fountain of Youth.” Although there is scant evidence that DeLeon ever searched for such a mythic site, the legend reflects the appeal of a powerful human desire: the restoration of youthful vigor.
In the 21st century, we are beginning to realize that the quest for youth has been transformed from a wistful dream to a scientific reality. Anti-Aging medicine exists, and research in the field continues to expand and gain momentum. This therapeutic approach differs from the traditional view of illness and the process of aging.
Standard medicine involves detecting and treating diseases primarily through the use of drugs and surgery. Typically, the healing process begins with a patient who’s already in distress. In contrast, Anti-Aging medicine focuses on preventing disease before the patient reaches distress and promotes active health management to improve quality of life, as well as length of life, for each patient.
Anti-Aging medicine utilizes scientific methods proven to be safe and effective for ameliorating the disabilities associated with the normal aging process, especially those caused by physiological dysfunctions, such as pre-diabetes, thyroid problems, sleep disorders, etc…We also employ the usual tools of allopathic (traditional) medicine, namely prescription medications, hormones, and surgery, if and when needed. In addition to these familiar treatments, we offer potent nutriceutical interventions (high-does vitamin and supplement therapy), exercise programs (balance, coordination and strength training), and optimal nutrition plans to help patients achieve the goal of health.
From our perspective, all of us are capable of functioning at (or very near) our optimal capacity until we are near the end of our lives; all people deserve to have abundant lives as well as long lifetimes.
